Last Thursday, April 28, the Theater Club debuted the play “Literature Under the Stars” live at Plaza Chaminade. In this original piece, a narrator (Adrián Padrón Curet ‘22) took the audience on a journey through works of literature studied in English class. Students from all grades took turns reciting poems and bringing celebrated authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Rudyard Kipling, Lewis Carroll, and Langston Hughes to life. Shakespeare’s classics were portrayed by our senior and junior students Edgardo Martínez ‘22, Paulo Rivera ’22 and Gabriel Castro ‘23. Making their acting debut, Ian Brioso ‘22 interpreted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech masterfully, and Esteban Candelario ‘22 brought to life the hopes and dreams of migrants with a poem by Judith Ortiz-Cofer. Eduardo Soltero ‘22 deftly portrayed the main character in the horror story “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. Jacobs. Our school choir, under the direction of Prof. Julio Suárez, provided poignant music between scenes. By the end of the show, we paid tribute to Prof. Elaine Torrens by dedicating the play to her.
We wish to thank Prof. Suárez and Prof. Luz Domínguez for their support in making this magical show, as well as the thirty actors who made it a night to remember. Thank you to all the attendees for supporting the arts. It is curtains down for now, but you can expect many more surprises from the Theater Club next year!
